National Poetry Month

It’s National Poetry Month and there are a ton of events, blogs, poems etc. to take part in, read and celebrate.

So where to start? How about The League of Canadian Poets. Somewhere I once went for a job interview because it sounded like a combination of some of my favorite things – poetry and superheroes. I didn’t get it. But this year for National Poetry Month they’re focusing on climate change and have a list of events locally, provincially and nationally.

Then there’s a poem a day for the whole month.

And we can’t talk about poetry without talking about criticism – so what is it? Where does it belong? And why do we need it?

After that head over to  Jacob McArthur Mooney’s project on Torontoist – the Optimism’s Project aimed at giving a space for poets under 30 to talk about what makes them optimistic about poetry in Canada.

And this goes a ways back – but this made me optimistic about Canadian poetry back in the day.
